While masquerading as a member of the ton, a lady's maid falls in love with an earl.

Desperate to replenish their squandered resources, Viscount and Viscountess Fitzjames devise a plan - they'll use their beautiful lady's maid, Jillian Carwile, to trap a wealthy husband for their homely daughter. Jillian is a bit reluctant to be a participant in such a deceptive scheme, but when the viscount and viscountess offer her passage to America once the deed is done, she readily agrees. How could she refuse? The possibility to begin a new life is too tempting to let slip away.

When Jillian foolishly falls in love with the earl they plan to snare, she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life.
